We do not collect personally identifiable information such as your name, email or phone number, and there is no sign-up.
Your swim records are stored on your device and are not sent to our servers. On iOS the app can connect with Apple Health, and on Android with Samsung Health.
AI prompt feature (optional)
If you use the “Ask AI” feature, a text summary of the workout you select is copied to your clipboard and the AI service you choose is opened. This happens only after you give explicit consent in the app, which you can withdraw at any time in Settings. The summary contains no name, email, or location. We do not send this data on your behalf, and we do not receive the conversation.
Location (pool search)
Location is used only when you actively run “Find pools nearby” or search for a pool by name. To fetch the list of pools, the Android app sends the request to OpenStreetMap (Overpass API), a public map service, and the iOS app sends it to Apple Maps (MapKit). A nearby search sends your current coordinates; a name search sends the search term together with the area around your current location (if location permission is granted). These requests do not pass through our servers, and we never store or log the coordinates or search terms. Processing by those map services is governed by OpenStreetMap's and Apple's policies. If you decline the location permission you can still search pools by name.
Anonymous usage stats and avatar backup (can be turned off)
To improve the app we send, once a day, which screens you use and for how long and which features you tap. The only other things sent are the app version, OS version, app language, your device's country setting and the swim level you chose in the app (beginner/intermediate/advanced). The country comes from your device settings — it is not a location measurement. The stats never contain the contents of your swims, your name, email or location, and features are counted only — never what you chose. We also store your avatar state (owned items, outfit, coins) so your wardrobe can be restored after reinstalling. There is no sign-up: devices are told apart only by a hash of an identifier (on iOS a random value created by the app, on Android the device identifier the operating system assigns to each app), which on its own cannot identify a person. Both can be turned off at any time in Settings under “Anonymous usage stats” and “Avatar backup”, and “Delete my data” removes them from our server immediately.
Saving swims to health apps
On Android, swims recorded with the Finns app on Galaxy Watch are saved to Samsung Health if you allow the exercise and heart rate permissions in Samsung Health. What is saved is the swim session (duration, distance, calories, laps) and the heart rate record; nothing is saved if you do not allow these permissions. On iOS, swims recorded with the Finns app on Apple Watch are saved to Apple Health as workouts. Records saved there can be reviewed and deleted in each health app and are governed by that app's privacy policy.
Google services (Android)
The Android app uses two Google features. ML Kit separates the subject in your photo when you turn your own photo into a swimsuit or cap pattern; the photo is processed only on your device and is never sent. When this feature runs, Google may collect device information (manufacturer, model, OS version), the app's name and version, processing performance and a per-installation identifier for diagnostics and usage analytics. The Play Integrity API checks that the app is genuine and the device is intact when the app fetches its settings; for this Google processes app information (package name, version, signing certificate) and device attestation information, and our server receives only the result. Information processed by Google is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
Retention and deletion
Your swim records and settings are stored only on your device; we keep no copy. Our server holds only the anonymous usage stats and your avatar state, which you can turn off in Settings or erase instantly with “Delete my data”; data on the server is kept until you delete it. If device backup is turned on (iCloud Backup on iOS, Google backup on Android), the operating system may back up app data to your account under that system's policies. Individual records can be deleted in the app, and uninstalling the app removes the data stored on the device. Records saved to Apple Health or Samsung Health are managed and deleted in those apps.
Security
Because we never send your swim records off the device, they are protected by the operating system's app sandbox together with your device lock and storage encryption. Every network request the app makes — notices, pool search, event-code checks, usage stats and avatar backup — is encrypted with HTTPS (TLS). We run no accounts and never send swim records to our servers, so a server-side breach could not expose them. The only things on our server are the anonymous usage stats and avatar state.
Your rights (GDPR and similar)
We hold no information such as your name or email that identifies you. The anonymous usage stats and avatar state on our server can be erased instantly with “Delete my data” in Settings, and everything else can be reviewed and erased directly on your device. Children's privacy
This app is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
