A. Permissions
iOS
| Permission | Required? | Use |
|---|---|---|
| HealthKit read | Yes | Import workouts |
| Notifications | Optional | Lessons, etc. |
| Photos | Optional | Save share videos |
Path: Profile → Settings → HealthKit data sync
Settings screenshots: Getting Started (#182 · #183).
If blocked in system: Settings → Health → Data Access → SwimLog.
Android
Samsung Health read access is the core path. (See store page / in-app tips for platform details.)
Q. My workouts aren't showing up. What should I check?
Go through this checklist:
- Confirm the swim is actually in Apple Watch / the Health app first. If it's not there, SwimLog can't import it either.
- Check every permission is on: go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → SwimLog and make sure all swim-related items (workouts, swim distance, stroke count, active energy, heart rate, etc.) are enabled. If even one is off, that piece of data may show up empty.
- Send the app to the background and reopen it. SwimLog automatically re-checks for recent workouts every time you open it.
- Right after install, a one-time loading screen imports your entire history. If you have a lot of workouts, give that a moment to finish.
Q. How often does auto-import run?
Right after install, it imports your entire history at once. After that, it re-checks for recent workouts every time you open the app or bring it to the foreground, without duplicating imports if you reopen it within a short window.
Q. Can I use it with just an iPhone, without an Apple Watch?
Swim records come from swim workouts stored in the Health app (HealthKit), so you need an Apple Watch logging those workouts to build up history. There is no manual session entry inside the app. Right after install, though, sample data lets you explore every screen first.
Q. I skipped a permission during onboarding — can I turn it on later?
Yes. Onboarding lets you continue even if you deny some permissions. You can always go back to Profile → Settings → HealthKit data sync to re-authorize, or enable items individually in Settings → Health → Data Access → SwimLog.
Q. The workouts on screen don't look like mine (sample data)
If you haven't imported any real swims yet, SwimLog shows sample data so you can see how the screens look. The first time, you'll also see a one-time "This is sample data" notice. As soon as one real workout comes in, the sample data disappears automatically and is replaced with your real history — no manual switch needed.
Q. I only allowed some items in the permission popup. Can the app show me what's currently on?
Under iOS policy, an app cannot see per-item allow/deny status for Health data directly. To check or change the exact current state, use Settings → Health → Data Access → SwimLog.
B. Privacy
- No login, ads, or external analytics/tracking SDKs
- Swim, medals, avatar data stay on device
- Not sent to a server for analysis
- The in-app "AI Coach" tips are generated on-device with rule-based logic too — no server call, no swim data leaves your device for this feature
Permissions this app asks for, and why
| Permission | Asked when | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Health (HealthKit) | Onboarding / HealthKit sync | Read Apple Watch swim data (distance, strokes, heart rate, calories) |
| Location | Searching for your home pool | Used only to find nearby pools |
| Camera | Shooting a share-card background | Use the photo as a share card background |
| Photos | Picking a photo | Only the photo you pick is accessed (not your whole library) |
Q. Does location need to stay on all the time?
No. Location is requested only once, when you search for your home pool — the app doesn't track your location in the background.
C. Backup · device change
- Workout originals stay in HealthKit / Samsung Health → re-authorize on a new device
- Medals / avatar: local only. No app JSON export/import UI today
- iOS ↔ Android transfer: not supported
D. Payments · gacha
- Core features free; no paywall required
- Gacha coins only from attendance + swimming (when conditions met) — no cash purchase
- Rates: standard 90/7/2.5/0.5, premium 50/30/15/5 → Wardrobe
How do I earn coins?
| Method | Coins | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Creating your avatar | 500 | One-time |
| Daily attendance streak | 50–300 | Once a day; +50 each day over a 6-day cycle (day 6 = 300), then resets to day 1. You must tap "claim" yourself |
| Workout bonus | 50 | Once a day, auto-granted after 30+ minutes of swimming that day |
| App update bonus | 300 | Once per version update |
There's no in-app purchase (IAP) in the app at all, and no way to buy coins with cash — so gacha only runs on coins earned the ways above.
Q. Is the probability info shown inside the app too?
Yes. The gacha screen has its own info card showing the same rates as above (standard 90/7/2.5/0.5, premium 50/30/15/5).
Q. I keep getting designs I don't want from gacha. Any way around it?
The Wardrobe has a Recombine feature that turns duplicate items into a new one. Pick 8 items from the same category and you'll get 1 new item at the same odds as the premium boost draw; pick 15 and you get even better odds — and it costs no coins. The items you use in a recombine are gone for good, so choose carefully.
E. Notifications
- Only local notifications you enable (e.g. lessons)
- No nagging “go swim today” push
What notifications exist?
- Swim lesson notifications: there's a master switch to turn them all off at once, plus a per-lesson list to toggle each one individually. Pick a repeating weekly reminder 15/30/45/60 minutes before start. Biweekly lessons don't support notifications.
- Post-workout check-in: a single notification 30 minutes after a workout ends. You can turn it off in Settings.
- Both are local notifications scheduled on-device — not a push sent from a server.
F. Language · accessibility
- 10 content languages (KO/EN/JA/ZH-Hans/DE/FR/ES/IT/PT-BR/NL). iOS can follow system
- VoiceOver / Dynamic Type (iOS v1.9)
Where do I change language or units?
In Profile → Settings: - Language: choose from 11 options total, including "System language." After changing it, restart the app once so it applies everywhere. - Distance unit: meters (m) or yards (yd). - Text size: Small / Normal / Large / Extra large.
G. Finns - Motion Flow
Q. What is Motion Flow?
It reconstructs your swim stroke in 3D from a single Apple Watch — measuring forearm orientation, palm rotation, and stroke timing. No cameras or extra hardware; replay your stroke at any speed, from any angle. Full guide: The Complete Finns Motion Flow Guide.
Q. What do I need?
Just an Apple Watch with the FinnsWatch app. Do a one-time 5-minute standing calibration (11 poses); after that, tap Start Swim on the watch and form analysis records automatically for the entire swim.
Q. Can I try it without a watch?
Yes. In Profile → Finns - Motion Flow, turn on Demo Data to explore full 3D analyses for every stroke style.
Q. Does it work on Android?
Motion Flow relies on Apple Watch sensors, so it is Apple Watch only.
